And as this is sol 2600 it's time to update my map too.

It seems to be the longest 100 sol sprint ever ...

I always wondered whether they'd ever beat the 400-500 jog, and I'm not disappointed one bit!
john_s
Another two or three drives like these, and we'll be about halfway to Cape York from Santa Maria. Wow.

The 400-500 jog had a bit of a handicap... Purgatory.
"Between April 26, 2005 (Sol 446) and June 4, 2005 (Sol 484) Opportunity was stuck in a Martian sand dune."

We may have crossed the 31km mark now, right ?
kenny
I think she must have done so. By my reckoning, if she clocked over 180m on the last 2 sols, which seems clear, then she is at over 31 km.

Evening all,

I'm sure many will have already done this, but thanks to the work of Pythagoras (and the 100m cubes supplied by Tesh) I would estimate Oppy travelled 140 - 150m each of the last 2 sols.

Absolutely right!
Opportunity was driving so fast this last week and I just forgot to have a close look to the odometer. It's now at 31105m or perhaps slightly more. I will add another "star" to the map on the next update.

...But the subdued crater (probably filled with soft sediments) north of the present position was a must to avoid. Thanks to your map the path chosen by the navigators seems now more obvious smile.gif

I think it's time to post the big picture once again. Given the upcoming holidays on the US my guess it we will stay parked at this site (same as sol 2637) until mid next week.

Scott just tweeted: "With one thing and another (mostly DSN issues), Opportunity hasn't driven for something like 5 days! We make up for that today: almost 5hrs!"

Yes. Almost as incredible as the rovers' durability is your persistence in tracking them for us all these years.

Thank you.
