Some impressive erratics left by the melting of the last glacier covering this region rolleyes.gif

If by glacier you mean ejecta and melting you mean erosion...

Here is my version of the 3927 mosaic.

Exactly... Some large interesting rocks out there that arrived somehow...

Wow, it looks like we're really heading to the edge to get a view of the valley! A good place to get a survey of what's below, then to plot a course of exploration. Thanks for all the great image processing, people!

Such an inspiring view! Thanks Robert, Olivier & All.

On Sol 3921, odo was short of 30 m from the 42 km mark. I guess we drove further by now, rigth Phil?
For having run a Marathon, I know exactly what it feels like when you see the finish line a mere 195 m away laugh.gif
So, THE mark is located somewhere rigth after Spirit of St Louis...

So which image shows the real Mars?
James Sorenson
The top one, but of course this is just a guestimate of the the color. The bottom is more of an enhanced color to enhance subtle colors of rocks and soil.

What a fantastic landscape; thank you, James! Love the wind-scoured edge of the slope.

So which image shows the real Mars?

Good question Julius.
I think that the filters on the camera have aged over the years and they have also their transmission "polluted" by the accumulated dust on the camera.
The landscape should not look as "bland" and color-saturated as it is shown sometimes and show much subtles differences in color.
For example, I've used an old technique, called "grey balance" or "white balance" (please, see the related posts on MSL/Curiosity section) and I found the rocks here to be really grey colored.
The rest of the landscape should show subtles color variations and this is why I think that my interpretation is close to what an human eye would see... smile.gif

Hey! There's a feature bearing my surname:

Bit of a cleaning event on 3934. There was speculation earlier that being close to the rim improved the odds of cleaning events - maybe we'll see more if we stay near the rim for a while.

There have been visible gusts in the big crater, here's one on 3935:

It's subtle - flip back and forth between that and this earlier view to see the gust:

love all the near/far details in the view from here, stereo brings out the criss-cross faulting probably separated by eons on the face of the near outcrop

I was thinking that we have some times to get to north facing places within Marathon valley before winter comes. I didn't realize Superior Cunjunction will come before. Found june 14th on google which means no com by early june. This is another 90 sols or so from now. Can somebody confirms my early june estimation?

I checked out the middle of today's three as it looks identical to the one from 28 Feb that I linked to in the vistas thread. It was 222K back then and 223K today, which seems odd.
