Outlook comments:
Well, as JPL has already started to upload the new version of flight software to MERs and it would make more driving soles restricitons. Besides, after the next outcrop at somewhat 40 meters, there seems to have another kind of land since its abedo has changed which is somewhat lighter than the present. I am not sure about what is the change but Bill seems to be of some fluffy sand according to his previous note. However, the arriving would be around the median value of bet which is 878 sol. The most probably that the arrival time would tend to be somewhat longer than 878 sol.

The simplest math would be to multiply your age by 365 / 687 which is 0.531

Someone else will have to work out the Earth leap years and the fraction of Mars' orbit that is +- 687.

Your rough number is accurate enough to within a couple of percentage points. Taking the Earth Tropical Year in earth solar days (24 standard hours) * the length of the earth solar day (in seconds) / Martian Tropical Year in Martian solar days (Sols) * Martian Solar day (measured in earth seconds) you get 0.531669277. Which should be accurate to well under a second per (earth) year.

So I'm not even half way through being 21 on Mars. Happy Sols..

My prediction is that the apron is imapssable, and we will never reach the rim of Victoria. I hope I am wrong.

Well, it will be more difficult to map with Tesheiner on leave, but I think we'll manage. wink.gif

Unless a multisol science campaign ensues at the disintegrated lump, it's looking pretty good for um3k

From other forum sections, 885 was a turn and test - and probably weekend work. So when Oppy gets moving, um3k, Adam, and decepticon are the likely contenders. Of course they could spend another 10 days wandering about. Has anyone defined what 'arriving at Beagle' means?

Can I enter sol never. It appears that the rover may very well by pass Beagle and head into the ejecta area. If this is the case I would imagine that the winner would be the guess when Opportunity was the closest to Beagle. Nonetheless, this is a very entertaining topic.
fredk
I'd say we're guaranteed a stop at Beagle. It's been a stated destination by the rover planners for weeks, and the latest pancam shots look extremely interesting. Plus the drive there is almost entirely on bedrock - nothing could be easier!

Now, this is quite unexpected...

Just need to resurrect the original pool-on-arrival at Victoria thread (which has become a bit thread-bare i might add):
http://www.unmannedspaceflight.com/index.p...1228&st=240

I am still on record stating SOL 934 as the official arrival date. Heck, i say we can still make it by then if we dont get stuck!

So thats two weeks here at Beagle and two weeks to make it to the edge.
Steve Squyres is on record as saying sometime in mid-september i think it was in a recent update, so im obstinately holding out for SOL 934, which shoudl be in the first week in September!
