And here I am stuck with bad (SLOW) modems at my ISP node and all these pretty images a-waiting.
*
I must confess Bill that at home I too have a painfully slow connection, but at work I have the fastest connection imagineable. It's frustrating going back and forth. I send myself email reminders to check back on some of the large file goodies that the folks here come up with.

My wife really needs to get a better paying job so I can afford an ISDN or something like that.
Bill Harris
And for those who prefer, here are two x-eyed stereo pairs from Sol 651 (?), of that outcrop. Both from the same R-L Front Hazcam pair, the first is "full frame" and the second is cropped to the center. As Helvick and Myran have noted, very delicate.

They do look a bit strange, but this is an stereo image made from fish-eye wide angle lenses. A bit unconventional.

Although not an MI image, these stereo pairs will work as an index for the forthcoming MIs of this spot.

Joffan
thanks Bill - cross-eyed does it for me.

I just sat there staring into the outcrop for about ten minutes (my eyes now ache). A-mazing.

Hopefully the rockboring insect that lives underneath doesn't pop out and bite Oppy - wait - cancel that....
Bill Harris
Heck, forget strange MI's, these are wonderful MI's!

First, the IDD taking a look at The Wonderful Outcrop.

Second, an MI of blueberries. I see one of the odd stemmed ones, and just to the left, a new type: a botryoidal blueberry.

How yummy!

That chunk at the top looks like peanut brittle.

They actually have some strange attributes, but I'm happy to back in the main thread. Let's hope we stay here smile.gif
CosmicRocker
Hehehe! Gosh darnit, Bill. I see you beat me to it, and you did it in the appropriate thread. I just posted a similar comment here.
Bill Harris
I just read that thread and I'm glad that someone else noticed the same thing. Great minds, gutters and all...

My first inclination was to post in the "MI done broke" thread, but I remembered this earlier thread and decided to resurrect it.

This particular berry popped out at me; this is important. In acid mine drainage the presence of botryoidal and/or framboidal pyrite is significant in that it is super-reactive with O2 and water: the area-volume ratio is very high and the large surface area is reactive. I'm trying to remember the genesis of that form, I actually gave a talk on this 20+ years back, but I'll be darned if I can remember any details. "CRS" setting in... biggrin.gif

But google "framboidal", you'll find it interesting. wink.gif We'll discuss later once we get educated.

Elk Grove's "peanut brittle" is interesting, too. It is composed of angular particles in a matrix. We'll look more later...

Attached in an enlargement of the area that we're clucking over.

Off to Exploratorium to see what goodies await.

Bill Harris
More MI's at Exploratorium. Not spectacular, but they be beautiful!

Looks like they're working on a MI panorama/mosaic.

Here is where we are relative to where we were.

The MI image was inverted to match the orientation of the pancam image.

Has anyone noticed The Writing On The Wall? It says "DT2" with an "M" above.

How in gods name did you notice that!? Took me some time to find it even though I new I should be looking for it. Me thinks your spending too much time looking at this stuff, time for 'MER imagery anonymous', for you. tongue.gif

It's is going to be a nightmare once the kooks get hold of this one!

I still cannot see it but I think that "DT2 with an M above" means E=mc2 in ancient Martian language... hmmmm.... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Carl Sagan - who passed away nine years ago today - said the Viking 1 B stood for Barsoom.

but it does looks like some sort of martian mathematical formulae, clues?

The 2 is the only character I can see clearly, but wait... isn't it cubed?

Why should the Martians write in English? My wife (who is Japanese) says this looks more like a "ni", for Nippon... tongue.gif

Haven't you ever watched Star Trek? Everyone in the galaxy writes and speaks in good American English.

Unless of course your wife just figured out what really happened to Nozomi....
edstrick
Are you sure the writing isn't in Klingon?

You can always check with the Klingon Language Institute:

mike
In Klingon it says "Interpret these characters as English".
CosmicRocker
Here is an Autostitched mosaic of the sol 684 brushed area. They did a pretty decent job of aligning the brush with the geometrically-challenged arm. The lower part of the image appears more altered/recrystallized than the upper. The bedding planes on the lower right seem to be extremely fine-grained.
Bill Harris
And in the brushed area I spy dark areas which appear to be small blueberries, so this spot is consistent with what we first saw in Olympia several aeons ago... biggrin.gif
