Some distant features can be seen again in the latest Opportunity Sol 4686 images
I think that we see a glimpse of Iazu at left and the protruding hills from Miyamoto Crater at right. https://mars.nasa.gov/mer/gallery/all/1/p/4...GTP2387L2M1.JPG Here below are two quick processings : 1) A first process : 2) And, if you look very, very carefully on the picture hereabove we can barely see around the Myamoto hills a ghostly higher feature much farther away from the crater itself. Here is a second processing (as a strip picture showing the horizon only) : But, maybe that our Cartographer-in-Chief, Phil Stooke, has a clearer (and wiser) view |

Yes, I noted the visibility of 'charborob's hill' (my feature 4) here: http://www.unmannedspaceflight.com/index.p...st&p=235123
But now since you are finding more, and while we are still just about on Cape Tribulation, it's a good idea to revisit this thread. I don't have a good grasp of what is what among the fainter features yet. Some of them may look different from this lower and more southerly location compared with the views from near the summit. |

I think that we see a glimpse of Iazu at left and the protruding hills from Miyamoto Crater at right. I'm not sure about the other bumps but that's definitely not Iazu. We've had a good view of Iazu for a while now, and it's more to the S-SSE (left of that frame). You can see Iazu start to come into view on the far left horizon in this frame: http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/opportuni...2M1.JPG?sol4686 And more of Iazu is at the horizon in this view: http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/opportuni...2M1.JPG?sol4686 |
