According to Xinhua News Agency, Chang'e-6 has completed docking in lunar orbit with samples transferred to the Earth-return vehicle. Xinhua on Chang'e 6 docking (I do believe this post is correct...) Yeah, docking was at 06:48 UTC and the sample canister was transferred at 07:24 UTC. -------------------- UMSF - the place of Opportunity to satisfy your Spirit of Curiosity via Perseverance

This is a very preliminary sketch map of the rover route as suggested by the tracks. The exact path near the lander is very uncertain and the zigzag part should probably be more compact. I'm not sure if the lander scale is correct either but it must be fairly close to the right size.
EDIT: it's a bit too big here. Still a work in progress. Phil -------------------- ... because the Solar System ain't gonna map itself.

This is still preliminary but greatly improved over my first sketch of the Chang'e 6 landing site and activities. The rover route will be improved when we start to see papers or presentations about it.

Scott Tilley reports that the CE6 ascent stage has been de-orbited.

Chang'e 6's capsule has just made it through re-entry. It's currently falling to the surface in Inner Mongolia, and has been sighted by recovery teams.

Samples from the anti-Earth hemisphere of the Moon are now sitting on the surface of Earth. Landing has occurred. The capsule lays on its side.

This tweet links to a page with a very interesting and detailed discussion of the sampling process. Open in something that will translate it for you if necessary. One point - the drill only penetrated about 1 m deep again. Phil -------------------- ... because the Solar System ain't gonna map itself.

We now have an approximate location for the Chang'e 6 ascender impact site. It's actually fairly close to Chang'e 4.

Yes! But the star for Chang'e 4 is not very precisely located...
Also the little rover has acquired a new name: https://x.com/CNSpaceflight/status/1806871243733557468 Jinchan, which means Golden Toad. Phil -------------------- ... because the Solar System ain't gonna map itself.

With the new location for the ascent stage I will post this update to my lunar sites map. China has come to the point where it needs its own colour.
